Arizona Opera Chorus
Artistic Development Workshops
2003-2004 Season

Except as noted, all workshops are sponsored by Arizona Opera and are free of charge to incumbent choristers.

"Era Blitz" Stage Presence Workshop

JoAnn Yeoman, Professor of Music Theater at ASU will conduct this workshop on January 10th in Phoenix and 11th in Tucson. She describes this workshop as "developing characters of different periods using dance."

Audition Stage Presence Workshop

The workshop will focus on the physical appearance and stage presence during the audition. JoAnn Yeoman briefly covered some of this during the summer workshop. She has an abundance of material on this subject. This workshop will be sponsored by AGMA-AZ and Ms. Yeoman, with choristers paying a fee to enroll.

Hands-On Makeup Workshop

This is a follow-up to the basic makeup and wig workshop held last season, with Sarah Fried again as the instructor. Choristers will apply the makeup during the workshop using several different makeup scenarios.
    The workshop is scheduled for:
    • Tucson: January 19, 7:00-10:00 PM at TCC Music Hall
    • Phoenix: January 28, 7:00-10:00 PM at Phoenix Symphony Hall

Master Class

A principal appearing in an AZ Opera production will conduct a Master Class for choristers, in cooperation with the Arizona Opera Guild. Tom Wright and Joel Revzen plan to offer the class in the Spring, 2004 timeframe.

Opera Scenes Workshop

The summer opera scenes workshop will again be held at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) in Phoenix, and for the first time at Pima Community College (PCC) in Tucson. AGMA-AZ will work with PVCC and PCC faculty and staff to develop the workshop programs, and announce enrollment dates. Singers will be required to enroll in a 2-credit, eight week music performance course. As last year, Arizona Opera will offer props and costume pieces for use in the end-of-workshop recitals.
(We need a Tucson volunteer to start the process with Pima Community College.)
